Mark StringerThe St. PCP welcomes back Mark Stringer (Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien), who regularly appears on the St. PCP’s distinguished list of guest masterclass teachers, teaching in a class on Schubert, Mozart, Adams and Barber. Maestro Gavriel Heine will join the class for a special session on his studies with Ilya Musin as well as his work in Ballet and Opera as Resident Conductor of the Mariinsky Theatre. This class represents a rare opportunity for conductors from all over the world to study a challenging, diverse and relevant repertoire in one of the most important cultural capitals in the world.
Gavriel HeineSeven days of classes and a final concert, March 4 - 10, 2019. In order to maximize podium time, the class is limited to only 8 - 10 advanced participants (and up to 4 observers) who will be invited to work with Maestros Stringer and Heine. This class has also been extended for two days compared to previous years in order to create a more immersive experience. Activities will include score study sessions, Q&A discussions, conducting sessions with two pianos, conducting sessions with the orchestra, a special session for auditors and a final concert. The class will also enjoy the opportunity to attend a concert of the
St. Petersburg Philharmonic
as well as a ballet performance at the world-renowned
Mariinsky Theatre
with Heine conducting. After the final concert, there will be one day off for conductors to explore St. Petersburg before the Mariinsky performance (optional).
The conductors of the class will be featured on the final concert as part of the St. Petersburg Chamber Philharmonic's 2018-2019 concert season. Each participant will receive significant podium time with two pianos and with the orchestra, as well as a certificate of participation.

Schedule
Conductors should plan to arrive no later than the afternoon of Monday, March 4 and depart on Sunday, March 10 or Monday, March 11 if they wish to take advantage of the final day of activities.
Tuition
Tuition (including breakfast and a shared double room in hotel) for active participants:
$2240 USD.
There will be an additional charge for single room accommodation, if available. There will be room for up to 4 observers (non-conducting students) to be accepted. Although they will not conduct in the masterclasses, there will be a special 1-hour class with the Maestro provided for these conductors. Tuition for observers (including room in hotel) will be $750 USD.

The St. PCP International Masterclass in Orchestral Conducting is one of the top conducting masterclasses in the world, having become known over the last decade for its outstanding teachers, excellent and responsive orchestra, and well-organized and supportive structure. The course takes place in various venues throughout the cultural capital of Russia and affords emerging conductors invaluable musical and cultural experiences. A fantastic class that was a wonderful introduction to true professional conducting. An emphasis on acute listening and high-level gestural technique with the goal to truly lead an ensemble.
This is one of the best workshops I have done. It was very well organized. Each participant has good amount of time with orchestra and piano sessions are always productive and helpful. The musicians from St. Petersburg Chamber Philharmonic work regularly together on a high professional level and are very positive and supportive. As always (but bears repeating), the other participants in the class became as valuable a source of learning as the instructors. We got along really well as a group in the end and that is something to be treasured.
