Mark Stringer, Guest Artist

In 2004 Mark Stringer was appointed Professor of Orchestral Conducting at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna.

Mark Stringer came to international attention with numerous productions at the Théâtre de la Monnaie and the Spanish premiere of The Cunning Little Vixen at Madrid’s Teatro Real. From 1991 to 1996 Mark Stringer was engaged at the Stadttheater in Bern. In France he has conducted at the Théâtre du Châtelet and the Aix-en-Provence Festival.

Very popular with Scandinavian audiences M. Stringer has conducted all major Scandinavian orchestras. Further engagements have included numerous concerts and tours in France, Russia, Japan, Australia, Luxembourg, the Czech Republic, New Zealand, Switzerland and the USA. The major orchestras he has conducted include the Berlin Philharmonic, Vienna Symphony, Vienna Chamber Orchestra, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, BBC Scottisch Symphony Orchestra, Pittsburgh Symphony, St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, NHK Symphony Orchestra, Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra and many others.

Born in Alexandria, Virginia (USA) in 1964 he studied at the Juilliard School of Music, the Tanglewood Music Centre and the Los Angeles Philharmonic Institute. His teachers include Bernstein, Ozawa, Rattle and Tilson Thomas.

Mark Stringer has recorded prize-winning CDs of the works of Lili Boulanger and Albéric Magnard.
