Artistic Director Jeffery Meyer leads the St. PCP in its seventh appearance at the International Sound Ways festival led by Alexander Radvilovich. The program will feature two exciting world premieres by Russian composer Anatoly Koroliov and the emerging American composer Daniel Temkin. American James Giles will return to the stage of Gilnka Hall to perform the world premiere of the final version of American composer Timothy Dunne’s Piano Concerto written for Giles and the St. Petersburg Chamber Philharmonic. The rest of the program is focused around two titans of the 20th century: Lutoslawski (
Funeral Music) and Berio (
Folk Songs, and Radvilovich’s homage to the master,
Sequenza in Memoriam Luciano Berio).

The St. PCP will also welcome to the stage in this fascinating program mezzo-soprano Natalia Evstafieva from the Mariinsky Theatre and the Concert Choir of St. Petersburg State University of Culture and Arts.

The St. PCP welcomes a new guest to its distinguished list of guest masterclass teachers, the internationally renowned conductor and teacher Alexander Polyanichko. Widely known for his masterful interpretation of the Russian literature, this class represents a rare opportunity for 10 young conductors from all over the world to study two musical pillars of the repertoire by Tchaikovsky. Join the St. PCP in what is sure to be a thrilling concert showcasing these young, emerging conductors as they tackle the dramatic and technical difficulties of some of Tchaikovsky’s most beloved works.

The St. PCP honors the anniversary of Beethoven’s death in an (almost) all-Beethoven concert led by Principal Guest Conductor Ho Chung Yeh. The concert will include two of Beethoven’s most important and well-known works, the
Overture to Egmont and the
Symphony No. 7. In a creative twist of programming that the St. PCP has become known for, the program will also include the lesser-known
Musik zu einem Ritterballet, and American composer Michael Torke’s
Ash, a work not only inspired by Beethoven, but one that actually transforms some of Beethoven’s original musical material in a playful and inspired new light.

The St. PCP is embarked on a recording project of Timothy Dunne's music during the 2013-14 season and is proud to present four world premiere performances of Dunne's work throughout the year. The St. PCP will perform three of these works in this adventurous concert featuring two brilliant Russian talents, Artur Zobnin and Irina Vasilieva. The spotlight will be turned to the virtuosic Zobnin who will be heard both as performer and composer and Vasilieva in
Margarita Metaphrase, a unique adaptation of music from Slonimsky's opera based on Bulgakov's
The Master and Margarita.

The 2014 International Masterclass in Orchestral Conducting will be the sixth international workshop run by the St. PCP for talented young conductors who will come from all over the world to develop their craft of conducting under the tutelage two great teachers. The most talented participants in the St. Petersburg Chamber Philharmonic's Conductor's Masterclass will be chosen to conduct on the final concert of the six-day intensive program.
