Fourth International Masterclass in
Orchestral Conducting 2012
with Alexander Polishchuk and Mark Stringer

2012 International Masterclass in Orchestral Conducting with Alexander Polishchuk (Professor of Conducting at the Rimsky-Korsakov St. Petersburg State Conservatory and former assistant to Ilya Musin) and Mark Stringer (Professor of Orchestral Conducting at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna) with the St. Petersburg Chamber Philharmonic. Five days of classes and a final concert, June 5 through June 9, 2012.

In order to maximize podium time, only 12 participants (and 8 observers) will be invited to work with Maestros Polishchuk and Stringer in June 2011 in St. Petersburg, Russia. Polishchuk is one of the Conservatory’s most important teachers and an expert in the Musin technique. Stringer, a graduate of the Julliard School in New York City, counts Bernstein, Ozawa, Rattle and Tilson Thomas among his teachers. The workshop will include score study sessions, conducting sessions with two pianos, conducting sessions with the orchestra, and the possibility of video review. All sessions will be videotaped. The top conductors of the class will have the opportunity to conduct on the final concert as part of the St. Petersburg Chamber Philharmonic's 2011-2012 concert season.

Each active participant will receive significant podium time with two pianos and with the orchestra, as well as a certificate of participation: approximately 80 minutes of podium with two pianos and 70 minutes with orchestra for each conductor. The conductors chosen to conduct on the final concert will have additional time with two pianos and the orchestral dress rehearsal before the concert and will receive a prize winners' certificate. Conductors who are observers only will have a special 2-hour class with Polishchuk on the Musin School of Conducting. He will also be available for private consultation during the second part of the class.
